One brick at a time, Buffalo Bills do you understand?

Posted: March 7, 2013 in Sports

Buffalo Bills football is loved by most people in WNY. However after 13 years of no playoffs that love is getting hard to explain. This year the Buffalo Bills will have a new look in the front office as well as on the field. The problem is the Bills won’t say they are rebuilding. But, every true fan can see the writing on the wall.

The Buffalo Bills are in full rebuilding mode. They will try to sell you that they are not rebuilding, but let’s take a look. With the addition of a new Head Coach and new coaches all over One Bills Drive; the Bills don’t have an identity yet. The Bills don’t have a NFL starting caliber QB; while Fitz is a very smart man, he doesn’t have the arm to start in the NFL. They have more holes to fill then a whack a mole game, and not enough draft picks or cap room to fix everything this year. If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck it is a Duck.

It would be nice if for once a pro sports team didn’t try to spin everything. It would be refreshing if the Bills treated their fans like the smart die hard people they are. I’m not sure if it’s fair to judge the new front office or not, but at this point I don’t owe them anything. They owe the fans, and WNY much more then they seem willing to give. Football like most sport is a game of misdirection, but when it comes to the fan base it shouldn’t be. After 13 years of bad play, and no playoffs I for one have had my fill of the Bills blowing smoke.

This year’s draft will be the first indictor of the Bills new direction. With needs all over the field; it will be hard to nitpick about the 8th overall pick. There doesn’t seem to a clear choice at any of the top 10 spots this year. The direction the Bills go should give a strong indication as to what they believe is of most importance. However like most things football it would just turn out to be a numbers game. They do need a top tier QB, however they also need WR,CB,TE.LB and the list goes on and on.  Because of the new front office and coaching staff; I think getting top free agents may not be as easy as last year. The Buffalo Bills will need to prove to players that they are finally for real.

The Bills have been a staple in WNY dating back to 1960, and the old American Football League. Fans of all ages have been pumping their hard earned money to the Bills origination from the start. It is time the Bills should how much they care about the fan base. New stadium talk, upgrades to the Ralph, top paid players, none of it means a thing if they miss the playoff again. But, there’s always next year, because as long as the Bills are in Buffalo the fans will come.
