From Blue and Gold to Green and Gold

Posted: March 17, 2013 in Sports

While the Buffalo Sabres wear blue and gold, they need the luck of green and gold. The Sabres had their foot on the gas early yesterday; only to come up short again. Hopefully today the Sabres can have a happy St. Paddy’s day and get an elusive win.

It is going to take more than luck for the Sabres to make the playoffs; or get a win tonight. Their best chance to win tonight may be find the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow and buy a win. It seems that if it can go wrong it has and will continue to go wrong for Buffalo. After coming out hard yesterday the Sabres found there game, and hit the brakes. Slowing down and looking tired after 20 minutes. I’d like to blame the coach, but we can’t do that. Or, can we? Rolston has had time to get some of this turned around, but has failed. Rolston has some of his  Amerks players up with the Sabres, and he has coach some other Sabres along the way. If this is Rolston’s idea of a job interview may I be the first to say       “You’re fired”.

Most of Buffalo will be dawning green today in honor of St. Paddy’s day. The Sabres fans I know fear that their faces will turn green while watching the Sabres play tonight. It is no longer fun to watch the Sabres. Somehow this team has taken a game and team I love and made it no fun. Rom the owner down to the players this organization has made Sabres hockey painful and sad to watch. It would seem that the team as a whole is unprepared, and goes through the games without heart. I hope I’m wrong and it is simple that a group of players are the problem and not the team as a whole. If Darcy does blow up this team we could be looking at a few more years of subpar hockey.

So, let me ask you a question. What do you as a fan want to see happen? Do you want to see this team completely retooled? Do you believe that Sabres brass can fix this team with a few trades? Or, do you think nothing good can come of having Darcy call the shots? Let me know, because I don’t think there is a wrong answer here. While the Sabres continue to slide down the Easter Conference, (not that is there much farther to fall) we keep hearing “we are not in fire sale mode, we still think we can make 8th.” Honestly as I’ve stated before I think they are done, yes the Sabres mathematically are not out, but let’s be honest; what have the Sabres shown for us to believe that?

Hopefully the Sabres can share in the luck of the Irish, and find a way to light the lamp tonight. At least a win will give fans and the team a shot in the arm. From there who knows. Anything is possible.

Everyone should realize that we are almost mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, and the smartest thing to do would be to tank. Making 9th or 10th place gets you nowhere – we should be bad like Pittsburgh was and draft great young talent.
